Much of my information on Australian approaches to energy efficiency was influenced by my dear friend Warwick Rowell.  Sadly Rick passed away in 2015 and much of his writing disappeared from the web.

The Permaculture Association of Western Australia has now created an archive of his material.  Many thanks to Peter Austin of Permaculture West for his work and allowing me access to this material.

Rick practiced what he preached.  He and his family built, and lived in, a succession of straw bale houses, lived off-grid for a number of years and quite apart from permaculture practiced an ecologically responsible lifestyle, while fully engaged in modern life.  The material in this archive reflects some very practical ideas, based on decades of experience.
